MOLD!!! MOLD!!! MOLD!!! September 2, 2010 Mikhail Sushchik (SF Bay Area, USA) This is a stupid, idiotic design shared by all Honeywell CoolMoisture products. The fan sucks humid air through the fan turbine and the parts of the machine that are not accessible for cleaning. In a couple of months of use mold grows all over the inside, including the fan turbine blades. De-molding it is nearly impossible. So, great, now instead of breathing dry clean air you breathe moist air with mold spores.
I just cant figure out why the designers did not reverse the air flow, so that humid air goes through fewer parts so that when mold grows you can clean in easily.
very good buy August 19, 2010 DebLV (Nevada, USA) very quiet, no problem sleeping with it on, given it is on the night quiet setting, living in a desert climate with pretty much no humidity, it helped my dry itchy eyes in the morning tremendously. Only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is to refill the tank with more water you need a lot of strength in your hands to open the tank, since you have to break the vacuum seal, that is been created while in use. Small weaker hands might have a problem with this.
Love the humidity control August 13, 2010 CL564 I like the fact that I can set a humidity control on this one. It's very quiet and easy to use.
Quiet but need to refill the tank quite often June 6, 2010 Folco Eric (Grenoble, France) This humidifier works well. It's very quiet but we need to refill the tank at least once or twice a day and the filter needs to be changed almost every month (and it's $12).
Works as Expected May 15, 2010 CCA (Los Angeles) It was difficult to select my first humidifier after reading all the good/bad reviews on various models. I picked Honeywell after doing research online and speaking to friends.
PROS: Great for occasional use so I don't really have to refill it much. I only use it for sleeping and prefer the low fan speed which really is quiet. Sturdy and simple design. Price. I didn't want to spend more than $50-60. Protek balls are inexpensive and don't rack up the bill if you use the humidifier less frequently. I prefer the smaller water tank as it's easier to carry when it's full. Easy to clean.
CONS: Humidstat doesn't work well in the bedrooms. The humidifier rarely shuts off when a lower setting is selected. Need to buy a hygrometer to check humidity level. I empty out the whole unit when it's not in use. It's very easy to spill water out of the base when you pick it up. Need to be careful that the water tank is sealed properly before usage and that you don't drop it!
