5 out of 5 stars misleading web-pages; exhorbitant S & H   August 7, 2010
Woofer
Amazon is a good place to see all the variants for Mucinex.
And the bottle of 500 tabs for 26 cents a piece was, I thought, the best price anywhere.
But when I clicked for the actual page, it was not the bottle of 500 pictured but a
twin-pack of 40s (80 tabs)! And the S & H of $13.95 is outrageous even for a 500 tab bottle.
Amazon is notorious for outrageous S & H.

5 out of 5 stars Works very well for lung congestion due to seasonal allergies   June 11, 2010

The active ingredient in this medication is Guaifenesin, which loosens phlegm and increases the lubrication of your lungs allowing so your cough is more productive and your bronchial passages stay clear. If you're like me and have lots of bronchial congestion and asthma type symptoms in the spring when there's lots of pollen in the air or if you're just suffering because of a cold, you want something that will work to relieve it without making you jittery like some medications and one that you don't have to worry about taking every 4 or 5 hours. I've had good luck with this one.

I'd tried the regular strength Mucinex, the one in the green box, which contains the ingredients 600 mg Guaifenesin and 30 mg Dextromethorphan HBr when I had one of those coughs that seem to go on forever, one that kept me up at night, due to a cold. It worked well on the cough but wasn't strong enough to keep my lungs clear. I still had that tightness in my chest. This one contains only the Guaifenesin, but it has 1200 mg which is strong enough to do the job. I haven't had a cough since trying it, so I don't know if it would help with that. The instructions say to drink plenty of fluids because it draws liquid into the bronchi. The water both thins mucus and lubricates the airway, facilitating the removal of mucus by coughing. Some people have mentioned their nasal passages or throat feeling dry after taking this medication but I haven't noticed that. Maybe it's because I drink a lot of water. (And Diet Coke) I haven't noticed any side effects after taking it for a few days. The tablets are a little large, probably because they're time released, so if you have a problem swallowing pills, these could be a little difficult. I like that I only have to remember to take them every 12 hours. Actually, the effects seem to last a few hours past that.

This is a great value way to buy this item!! Smaller units make the price of this very appealing!!

2 out of 5 stars Mucinex is good product but the price is ridiculous   August 13, 2009
Cell Phone User (USA)
I was coerced by marketplace tactics into buying this brand of guaifenesin, but I will not order it from Amazon. My local Target sells bottles of 40 tablets at a far better price-per-tablet. Amazon's price has increased by approximately 75% in the last couple of months. Be aware, buying in bulk is not always the least expensive choice!
The reason I used the phrase "coerced... into buying this brand!" is that the pharmacist who was making an excellant product had to stop making it at a reasonable cost due to Mucinex's patent infringement threats. All Mucinex wanted to do was to corner the market on a medication many must have daily. To the best of my knowledge, Mucinex is currently owned by Rickett-Benkheiser.
