I am a visiting nurse and thought that this thermometer would be wonderful because it is non-contact, however it is very temperature sensitive. If the ambient temperature is between about 60 and 80 degrees it works great. However at extreme cold or heat the thing does not work well at all. I am now looking for other types of thermometers.

I purchased this because of the great reviews it received. It is absolutely inaccurate. I took it with me to the doctor's office, after I compared it repeatedly with my Exergen Temporal. The Exergen would tell me my temperature was 99.2 (repeatedly) while this one told me 97.2. I read and followed the instructions to the letter and everything I tried told me a different temp than what it was. At the doctor's office, same thing - with the doctor's thermometer, and my exergen temporal, my child's fever was 100.2, with this one, 99.1. Worthless, especially since this cannot be returned.
In addition to this, have you ever tried to take the temp of a squirming child? I had to hold my child's head so the darn thing would show me the one point of light, then, still hold him so it would show me the temp. Not good for children unless they can stand still, follow directions and not move.
The one star is for the product, not the fact that I cannot return it.

We have 3 young kids (under 5) and this item is excellent. I rarely rate an item 5 stars and rarely do ratings, but this one deserves it. It may occasionally give a slightly lower or higher temp (within a degree or 2 at most), but it literally takes seconds. The kids actually LIKE to get their temp taken :) You never have to risk waking that sick child to check their temp (YAY)! The ONLY drawback I have found, if you want to take your own temp, you need a mirror heh.
Some tips, one read instructions well. Two, I always take the temp at the temple, this seems to give me the most accurate and best readings, but you can actually take the temp anywhere. It is the temp of the blood flow to the brain that you want to worry about though. Make sure your red dots are perfectly on top of each other for most accuarte readings. Let your kids take your temp with it, and they will see how fast and easy it is and won't hesitate to get their own.
We went through almost every thermometer out there (in mouth mercury, takes forever, hard to read; in mouth digital, too long, kids hate it, wakes them up; under arm too inaccurate; other temple readers, inaccuarte dont' work for long; all are inferior to this product.

This thing works great. This little device does such a wonderful job and so easy to use and it has so many uses other than just taking your child's temperature. You'll find yourself taking the temperature of everything. STOP READING THESE REVIEWS AN BUY TWO OF THESE!!!! One for you and one for your best friend. They will thank you every time they see you.
